Betfair Exchange, which is based in London, is the largest and most popular betting exchange online. Here, you don’t bet against a sportsbook but rather exchange bets with fellow punters. That gives you a shot at wagers and odds that aren’t available at conventional books, and the system ensures that you have real-time access to events, odds and other crucial information.

Betting at Betfair Exchange
When you access Betfair Exchange, you can do so directly through the website, and there are two website options: desktop and mobile. That means there’s no software to download and install. Note that there is a mobile app for both Android and Apple devices. However, we’ll focus on the mobile website, along with the desktop site, here because the app is more limited and simply becoming less relevant as smartphones and tablets become more powerful. Another benefit of using the desktop and mobile websites is that the experience is consistent whether you’re at home or wagering on the road.
The Betfair Exchange desktop website is simple to use. Simply enter your email address or username and your password. Then, click the Login button. You can request that the website remember you, but this is only recommended on a PC that you use at home. On the left-hand side, you’ll discover a menu that lists all of the supported markets, including those that aren’t currently active. In the middle of the screen is a panel that lists today’s events categorized by sport. Simply click the tab for the sport you want to bet on to bring up those matches.
You’ll also notice a Most Popular Bets section on the right-hand side. This is useful if you want to go to where the action is. You can also click the In-Play tab at the top of the page to see a list of in-play bets that are currently available. These are filtered by sport, and you can further refine that to a particular match. Bets can be placed in advance of a match starting, and you will still have access to all of the in-play features should you choose once the game begins.
When you navigate to the Betfair Exchange website, it will automatically detect your smartphone or tablet and serve you the mobile site instead. The mobile site is similar, and there’s a series of quick access buttons in the top horizontal menu: In-Play, Football, Tennis, Multiples and so forth. You can also scroll down to Quick Links, which highlight many of the top events for the day.
Scroll down further to find Most Popular Bets and sections dedicated to each mark. Selecting a bet is similar to the desktop experience, and everything updates in real-time. Log-in is similar as well. You share you same account across the desktop and website experience and can access advanced account features, such as deposits, withdrawals, promotions and so forth.
Wager Types and Markets
Betting on Betfair Exchange is generally limited to single bets since the exchange environment isn’t conducive to parlays and the like. As for markets, you will discover similar markets across the Betfair Sportsbook and Betfair Exchange. This includes soccer in the U.K. and throughout the world. The exchange also features North American sports, such as the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA. You can also bet on horse racing and greyhound racing. Other markets include golf, tennis, motor sports, darts, Rugby League and Rugby Union. The exchange also has special betting opportunities available for the most important events, such as the Super Bowl and FIFA World Cup.
Betfair Exchange accepts traditional bets, which are wagers made prior to a match starting. However, it also accepts in-play wagers, which are made after a match has started and before it has ended. In fact, it’s safe to say that the bulk of action that occurs at the exchange is in-play betting. Odds on the exchange are not fixed and do not lock in. They change with the market. No in-play bet is guaranteed, and there is a chance that a claim on an in-play wager will be unsuccessful. Most go through without issue, however, and you can also request a bet that some other play may agree to purchase.
Cash Out is a service provided by Betfair Exchange that lets you lock in a profit or loss before a sporting event or wager has finalized. Simply watch your bets as a game unfolds. If a wager is eligible for cash out, Betfair update it with the profit or loss at which you can cash out. Keep in mind that this an exchange and the market is fluid. That means that there are a lot of factors in play. A bet without a lot of action on it may not have the cash out option. Also, since the market is fluid, cash out values are not guaranteed until locked in. Any cash out may be unsuccessful or partially successful.
